Top Places to Play Golf in North Carolina
Brunswick Isles Golf Trail Group
In my personal experience, North Carolina is one of the most relaxing and easily accessible states to play golf in. There is a plethora of golf clubs and resorts for even the newest and youngest of players, showing that golf isn’t just a sport for the elite or wealthy, but something that the whole family can enjoy together. All of the following have at least a 4 and a half star rating, according to Golf Digest:
The Sapphire National Golf Club is located in Sapphire, North Carolina. Located in the mountains, this golf course is 18 holes, with par set at 70. The Club is semi-private and is open from March to December each year. For 2009, the outside rate for the public is $99.00, which includes green fees and carts. If you want to play after 2 pm, however, the price is reduced to only $55 per person. The Golf Club also has Play Cards available, which include a 10 Play Pass and cart for only $675 per person. Other great features of this golf course are the varying landscape, which each player encounters. Each hole varies in difficulty; length and terrain, making this golf course a challenge for even the most avid of players.
Another exceptional golf course to be found in North Carolina is the Tobacco Road Golf Club, located in Sanford, North Carolina. According to Golf Digest, Sanford is the home of more quality golf courses than any other golf destination in the country. The golf courses of Sanford offer exceptional packages, which allow you the opportunity to play on several different course, all for one flat rate. For the summer, they offer a summer golf package, which includes 3 rounds/2 nights at the Springhill Suites for $199 per person. For the months of July and August, however, they’ve reduced that price to $179 a person. For the fall months, September through the end of November, that same package will cost you $249 per person. All of the golf courses in Sanford boast quality terrain and have even been designed by some nationally known architects, such as Rees Jones, Ellis Maples, Dan Maples, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio. Playing at any of the Sanford courses will be a game to remember!
The third and final golf course to mention is the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill. Belonging to the University of North Carolina is where the Tarheel golfers practice. The golf course was also recently voted #39 in Golf World’s survey on ‘Best Public Golf Course’. Because this is a public golf course, the fees aren’t quite as steep as other courses listed in this article. Student fees range from $30-$55, varying on what time the individual wants to play; guest fees range from $50-$82; and the green fee for faculty/staff of UNC ranges from $40-$70.
No matter which golf course you choose to play at, you can be guaranteed that it will be one of quality. North Carolina’s golf courses are all of quality and many are nationally ranked.
